My Name is Sam Starr and I started Brick Oven Diaries to chronicle the building of brick ovens, providing step-by-step documentation and suggestions for other DIY builders out there interested in building wood-fired brick ovens for pizza and bread baking. I started the blog in October of 2010 while building my first oven for the Kendall Farm in Ancram, New York.
Now I’m working on my own oven project – called TRUCK PIZZA – in the back of a step van in Hudson, NY. Hopefully by the end of 2011 I’ll be serving Neapolitan wood-fired pizzas on Warren Street in Hudson. Work is in progress – anyone want to come help? Stay tuned for a Truck Pizza website.
Most of the oven design inspiration comes from the Forno Bravo website, in addition to sage advice from oven builder an sculptor Michael O’Malley and his favorite book, “The Bread Builders: Hearth Loaves and Masonry Ovens” by Daniel Wing and Alan Scott.
